Xu Qiang attends “The 1st International Symposium on Coseismic Landslides” ----2018-09-28
 

JTC1 (Joint Technical Committee 1), a speciality committee of slope and landslide, is an arm of the JTC which is co-set by IAEG, ISRM, and ISSMGE. The task of JTC1 is to compile and publish monographs and reports on some key issues through the joint efforts of international experts. In recent years, JTC1 has launched a new plan: compiling TR4 (Technical Report 4), focusing on earthquake-induced landslides. It will provide a guiding framework for the risk assessment of earthquake-induced landslides. TR4 is initiated by Prof. Towhata of Tokyo University, former chairman of ISSMGE Asia. It picked a well-known professor from each earthquake-prone country to form the joint technical committee. It is a great honor that our Prof. Xu was picked as a member of China to compile a technical report of the geohazards in Wenchuan Earthquake.

 

From September 22 to 25, 2018, the first academic meeting of TR4--the 1st International Symposium on Coseismic Landslides had been held in Tokyo University, which was a great platform for TR4 members to share their experience and ideas.

 

A lot of TR4 members from the earthquake-prone countries, such as the United States, China, New Zealand, Chile, Nepal, Belgium and Japan, were invited to attend this symposium. They reported and shared the research achievements of large earthquakes and geohazards in their own countries. Finally, the framework and chapter arrangement of TR4 were settled.

 

Our Prof. Xu Qiang, Wang Yunsheng, and associate professor Luo Yonghong were invited to give academic reports. As the head in charge of compiling the technical report of geohazards in Wenchuan Earthquake, Xu gave his report: “Report on landslides triggered by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake”. He introduced the characteristics of surface deformation, the development and distribution of geohazards and the influencing factors triggered by Wenchuan Earthquake. Besides, his new ideas and measures for disaster prevention in large debris flows were highly praised by present experts.

 

 Then, Wang Yunsheng shared his report--“The slope seismic dynamic response monitoring during the past ten years”. Based on the slope seismic dynamic monitoring in Qingchuan, and the 3D geological characteristics of monitoring sites acquired by geophysical prospecting and UAV aerial photography, and tested by 2D and 3D numerical simulation, the main factors affecting the amplification effect of slope quake were studied. It is an important way to understand the slope seismic response and the mechanism of earthquake inducing landslide. Finally, these attendants visited the world class high speed ring shear laboratory of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute in Kyoto University.
